A little over a week ago, Saydee and I embarked on our first long journey together! I'm probably just now blogging about it because it has taken me this long to recover. Kidding! Kind of. Overall we had a really great trip. The travel was long, and the time change was a little rough, but we had a really fun time!
Our flights were booked, and our many, many bags were packed and headed to Boston. Eric's grandparents live about 45 minutes out of the city, so it was the perfect chance for us to get over there to visit, and for them to meet Say for the first time. We ended up seeing a bunch of other family there as well, which was a great addition to our agenda.
Because this was Saydee's first "real" baseball trip (aside from Phx-Oak from spring training), I decided it would be fun to document our adventure. There was no way I was lugging my camera around, so my iPhone was on picture duty.
Here's how it went:
We had some friends who were so sweet to watch Winnie for us while we were away. Not only did they watch Win, but they came and picked us up and taxied us to the airport! You can't really see her, but Winnie's squishing her new buddy Mabel in the back. She's the cutest! Thanks Jaime and Scott!
Heading out of Oakland! Its really nice that they let you "baby-wear" through security. This gave me two free hands to get everything on the belt and through the X-ray machines which was nice. Also, Say has no idea what's about to hit her.
I know you were wondering, but no, I could not look any more Asian. Our first flight was 3 hours to Kansas City, where we had a 3 hour layover. Not optimal to have 3 hours in between flights, but we figured it would be nice to get off the plane, stretch our legs, and walk around a little bit. Despite not sleeping for more than about half an hour, Saydee did great!
We love Sophie!
Books are not only good for reading, they also taste great.
Her Jungly Tails book is one of her favorites.
We made it to KC! During our layover we ate lunch, napped (on my hand) for a short 20 minutes or so, and watched the planes take off and land. Saydee has what I like to call FOMO: Fear of Missing Out. It's a serious problem. She usually naps 3-4 times a day, but there was just too much happening. She wanted to make sure she didn't miss a thing!
"3 more hours? You've got to be kidding me."-Saydee
We boarded our second and last flight of the day.
By the last half hour, Sophie was old news. Jungly Tails became a big, furry, Jungly Fail, and we were both ready to be in Boston. Aside from her ears hurting a little on the descent, she did great :) We were both exhausted, but overall it was a good travel day.
This picture cracks me up! It pretty much sums up how we felt after 10 hours of traveling.
Note: If you see a mom trying to get all of this crap off the baggage carousel, by herself, while wearing her baby, the nice thing to do would be to offer some help.
When we arrived it was pouring down rain, and freezing! Can't say I hated it though. I am an Oregonian, after all.
Saydee's first of many cab rides.
We made it!
Once we arrived at the hotel, we did a happy dance, ordered some room service (we deserved it), and went to bed. Eric got in around 4am after a long trip from Texas, and we could not wait to spend the off-day together!
Across the street from our hotel was an absolutely beautiful park! We strolled around and enjoyed the beautiful weather before meeting up with Eric's family for dinner.
The next few days were a lot of fun. We met up with some of Eric's family, had dinner, and Say took her first trip to Fenway!
On our way back, we had a direct 6am flight. The flight time was supposed to be 6 hours 40 min, but ended up being about 8 hours with some delays we had once on the plane. We kept Saydee on Oakland time while we were in Boston, in hopes of her sleeping on the returning flight. Hallelujah, it worked! She slept the first 5ish hours of the flight, and was a well-rested, happy girl the rest of the way there. She made lots of friends on the way home :)
We had a great trip, and although we aren't planning on any long trips in the near future, we are glad to have the first one under our belts!
